We discovered baby wearing and attachment parenting when our son was born in Charlottesville, VA. We now live in Philadelphia where baby wearing is not as popular, but is certainly growing. My wife experimented with every sort of baby wearing device, including Maya Wraps, Hotslings, Ring Slings, Britax Baby Carriers, handmade carriers and others.
At first, I was intimidated and nervous about baby wearing because I didn’t trust something as simple and foreign as some fabric tied together with two rings or simply by many turns around your body and ending with a tie. My first attempt was with the hotslings and the baby carriers. As a dad, I tended to prefer the baby carriers because they seemed to fit the male image in my head. I did venture out and wear the sling from time to time at social events, though, and everyone thought it was great.
Our baby, well, he loved the slings and wraps since he was an infant. In the slings, he would usually sleep. If he were awake, the slings made for a nice baby hip holster that he could sit up in. The wraps seem to be the ultimate, however, because he closer to eye level and could face in or out, depending on his mood. It didn’t take long for my wife to master, and putting the baby on her back was even a snap. We hope this web site of our experiences, instructions, and guides helps you find the right solution for your and your baby’s comfort. Enjoy!
