Never buy or use a bag sling, you may still find some used, or newer variations, but there have been huge recalls of these once popular baby carriers. These bag slings are purse shaped, often with lining, that are designed for the baby to rest deep inside. The fabric closes around the baby, cutting off air, and the baby could roll into the fabric or your body and smother. A baby may also struggle to breathe as the bag forces her chin into her chest. These design flaws have caused respiratory distress, hypoxia (long –term problems) and even death. Since the bag is closed, the adult can’t really see the baby to know if she is asleep or in trouble.
In general, the top of the baby’s ears should be out of the sling, and when carrying a baby in front, the baby should be high enough for the carrying adult to kiss the top of the baby’s head.
